Marine Maintenance

Overview of the course
The 12 week Maintenance course will expand the average boat-owner's knowledge of vessel maintenance --a prudent safety feature as well as a cost-saver.  Students will gain a basic understanding of gas and diesel, two and four stroke, inboard, outboard and inboard/outboard engines as well as a broad range of maintenance issues.

What will I learn?

The course covers subjects such as seasonal maintenance and repairs to wooden, fiberglass and metal hulls. Sections are devoted to maintenance for electrical and mechanical systems; spars, rigging and ground tackle; fire and safety protection; moorings and berths; trailers; tools and fittings.

There will be examples of different engine types and parts and well as possible field trips for hands-on experience on boats and/or engines.

Study requirements are dependent on each student's level of knowledge but should average no more than one hour per week outside of class time.
