Marine Electronics

Overview of the course
This elective course is designed for the boater who wants to understand today's complex electronic devices such as those used for safety afloat and for navigation.
 
What will I learn?

This 15 week course covers subjects such a DC and AC electrical systems, wiring, galvanic and stray-current electrolysis, and electrical interference.  Students will also learn about lightning protection and the marine radiotelephone.

Electronics such as the depth sounder, RADAR, GPS satellite systems, and auxiliary equipment are explored. Many of these can be taken as separate, in-depth courses as well.

Students will have some hands-on experience with varioius electronics.
 

Study requirements
The amount of out-of-class study required will vary with each student, depending on her/his current level of knowledge.  Maximum study outside class time should not exceed one hour per week.
 
Registration, Fees, and Materials
The fee for this course is $85.00 for CPS members and $100.00 for non-members including all materials. This course runs on demand so please let our training officer know you are interested.
