Boat Wise Course

Overview of the course

This course is designed for young people 8 to 12 years old.  It uses a video, stories and a mascot to teach youth the skills they need to be safe and wise on the water.

What will our kids learn?

Boat Wise does just what the name suggest: it gives kids basic information about boats, boating etiquette, "rules of the road," signaling, safety equipment, "getting under way," and preparing for emergencies.

They also gain an understanding of the Canadian Aids to Navigation system and learn how to safely handle a boat and operate a VHF radio.

Study requirements

There is a workbook course participants are expected to complete. However doing so is not onerous or overly time-consuming.

Course Credit

Some schools offer credit for completion of this course.  Please check with your teacher or principle.
