RECREATIONAL VESSEL COURTESY CHECKS

The Nanaimo Power & Sail Squadron offers free voluntary Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks (RVCC) to help boaters make sure they have appropriate boat safety equipment on board. This includes such things as life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers and so on.

Transport Canada has set standards for the Minimum Safety Equipment required by various types and sizes of pleasure craft. Standards apply to power boats, sail boats, row boats, canoes, kayaks, dinghys, sail boards, and more.

Minimum Safety Equipment standards are intended to help keep boaters safe on the water.

Not having the required safety equipment on board your pleasure craft, whatever its size, can result in a large fine from Transport Canada.

You do not need to be a Nanaimo Power & Sail Squadron member to have a safety check done. Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks are completely voluntary and anonymous. No records are kept.

Contact the Executive Officer or the Supplies Officer to arrange for an RVCC for your pleasure craft. Their contact information can be found on the List of Bridge members.

If your boat meets the minimum standards, you will receive a decal for the year.
